Botox in Laoag and Ilocos Norte: What It Can and Cannot Fix
Botulinum toxin softens expression lines, not sagging or volume loss. What it treats, how long it lasts, why quotes differ, and what it costs in Laoag.
The short version
- Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles that fold the skin. It works on expression lines, not on sagging, hollowing or sun damage.
- It does not remove static lines that are already etched at rest, and it cannot replace lost volume. Those need a different treatment.
- Results appear over about two weeks, and a review at two weeks is part of the treatment, not an extra.
- At La Peau Parfaite, Botox starts at ₱7,000 and fillers at ₱15,000, and the price depends on the areas and the units used.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding and some neuromuscular conditions are reasons not to treat.
Botulinum toxin is the most researched treatment on an aesthetic clinic's menu and the most misunderstood by the people booking it. It relaxes specific muscles so the skin over them stops folding. It does not lift a sagging face, fill a hollow cheek or erase a line that is already engraved at rest.
This page explains what it does, what it does not do, how long it lasts, why two quotes for the same face can differ by thousands of pesos, and what treatment costs in Laoag City.
What it actually does
Botulinum toxin blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscle. The muscle it is injected into stops contracting as strongly, the skin above it stops being creased, and over the following days the crease softens.
That mechanism explains both its strengths and its limits in one sentence: it changes muscle activity, so it only helps where a muscle is the cause.
What it fixes well
- Frown lines between the eyebrows, which are usually the deepest of the expression lines and the ones most driven by muscle.
- Horizontal forehead lines, when the line is created by the frontalis muscle.
- Crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes.
- Bunny lines on the nose, in some faces.
- A gummy smile, in selected cases, with careful dosing.
- Jaw slimming with masseter treatment, where the muscle itself is bulky rather than the face being wide-boned.
- Excessive underarm sweating, where the same medicine is used for a medical indication.
The word in each line is muscle. Where the cause is muscle, the result is usually good.
What it does not fix
- Sagging along the jawline or the neck. That is skin and fat, and no amount of toxin lifts it.
- Hollowing under the eyes, flat cheeks or a receding chin. That is volume, which means filler or something structural.
- Static lines engraved at rest. Toxin softens the muscle pull that deepens them, but the etched line often remains, and resurfacing is what addresses it.
- Sun damage, melasma, pores or skin texture.
- A wide face caused by bone rather than muscle. Masseter treatment changes the muscle, not the skeleton.
A consultation that offers toxin for all of the above is selling a single product as a solution to several different problems.
How long it lasts
Typically three to four months for facial expression lines, sometimes a little longer with repeated treatment, sometimes shorter in people who metabolise it quickly or who exercise heavily. Masseter treatment usually lasts in a similar range. Underarm sweating often lasts longer, five to seven months in many patients.
The effect is not permanent and does not need to be. The value of that is that a result you dislike fades.
Why two quotes for the same face differ
There are three legitimate reasons and one that is not.
The first is units. Toxin is sold in units, and different areas need different numbers. A forehead, a frown and crow's feet use more than a frown alone. A quote for "one area" without a unit count is not comparable to another quote.
The second is the product. More than one botulinum toxin product is registered in the Philippines, and they are not dosed identically. Ask which product, and check that the vial is opened in front of you.
The third is the injector. Anatomy knowledge changes where the needle goes, and where it goes changes both the result and the risk of a droopy eyelid or an uneven brow.
The illegitimate reason is dilution. A cheap quote can mean more saline in the vial and fewer units in the face, which produces a weaker result and a customer who returns sooner.
Ask three questions before any injection: which product, how many units in total, and who is injecting.
The two-week review
Toxin does not work immediately. The effect develops over three to fourteen days, and the maximum is usually visible at about two weeks. That is why a review at two weeks is part of a proper treatment rather than an optional extra: it is the point at which small asymmetries can be corrected, and the point at which the dose for next time is learned.
A clinic that does not offer a review is treating you as a transaction. Ask whether the review is included.
What it costs in Laoag City
At La Peau Parfaite, Botox starts at ₱7,000 and dermal filler at ₱15,000, for a 30 to 45-minute appointment that includes the assessment and the treatment. The final figure depends on the areas treated and the units or syringes used, which is decided at the assessment and written down before anything is injected.
If you are travelling from Vigan, Batac, Pagudpud or elsewhere in Ilocos Norte, plan the visit knowing that the treatment itself takes minutes and the assessment takes longer. The price list for Laoag City lists the starting figure for every service in the clinic.
Who should not be treated
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding, for elective treatment.
- A neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, or medicines that interfere with neuromuscular transmission.
- Active infection or inflammation at the injection site.
- A known allergy to the product or its components.
- Unrealistic expectations about what a muscle relaxant can do for sagging skin. This is not a moral judgement, it is a reason the result will disappoint.
Tell the injector about every medicine and supplement, including antibiotics and anything for autoimmune disease.
After treatment
- No rubbing or massaging the treated area for the first hours, and no lying face down.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and hot compresses for 24 hours.
- Makeup can usually be applied after a few hours, following the clinic's instruction.
- Mild bruising at the injection points is common and settles within a week.
- Report a drooping eyelid, double vision, difficulty swallowing, or weakness spreading beyond the treated area immediately. These are uncommon and need assessment, not waiting.
Toxin is not the only option, and often not the first
If the concern is texture, pigment or fine surface lines, the answer is resurfacing, not toxin. If it is laxity, the answer is an energy device or, in the right candidate, surgery. If it is volume, it is filler.
The consultation exists to sort the concern into the right category. That is also why a clinic that offers only one treatment tends to find that one treatment is the answer to everything.
If you have not had an aesthetic consultation before, the first visit guide explains what to bring and what to ask, including the question of who performs the injection.
